Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin Varsity Akungba-Akoko, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun has revealed that the funds used for the creation of the University Radio was internally generated.
Speaking to Journalists in a Press Briefing to commence activities of the 7th Convocation ceremony of the University, Prof Ajibefun explained that the Campus radio christened 90.3 Fm would train students from the Mass Communication Department as well as serve the community.
The AAUA radio which is to be commissioned by the visitor, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is “one of the major highlights of this year’s convocation ceremony”, the VC said.
He added that “The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) issued the license for the radio in 2015 while the contract for procurement and installation of the radio equipment and accessories was awarded by the
Ondo state Government in 2016.”
Prof. Ajibefun further cleared that “The project, which was completed in September 2017 was fully funded by the University through its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).”
He noted that the radio would be for training of students especially Mass Communication Department.
“The university community radio is critical to the training of our students in Mass Communication Department as well as serving the university community and the entire Akoko communities that host the university,”Prof.Ajibefun said.
The Convocation ceremony which is a combination of two sessions- 2014/2015 and 2015/16 produced 50 First Class Graduates, 16 Ph.Ds, 128 Master’s Degree amongst others out of the 9812 graduands.
Also, three prominent indivuals would be given honorary Award: Governor Rocha’s Okorocha of IMO State bagged “Doctor of Letters”, Chief Adebutu Kensington bagged “Doctor of Business Finance”, while Chief Julius Ajibulu was conferred with “Doctor of Science” for his immense contribution towards the University.
