Amid controversy trailing Saturday’s local government elections in Lagos which was largely won by the APC, BreezeReporters has obtained a video footage, showing a voter mass-thumb-printing for a party in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA.
The video shows LASIEC official walking away from the polling area as the voter thumb printed on multiple ballot papers beyond the required two.
A source who was at the scene alleged that the voter thumb printed many ballot papers for the APC and accused LASIEC officials of rigging for the APC; although this claim could not be independently verified by BreezeReporters.
Meanwhile, LASIEC has announced APC candidate, Fatai Oyesanya, as the winner of the chairmanship elections in the LCDA. Accord Party Candidate and a former speaker of the council, Taiwo Owolabi came second.
According to LASIEC returning officer for the LCDA, Professor Olufunso Omopitan, Oyesanya of the APC polled 4,571 votes while Taiwo of the Accord Party polled 2,571 votes.
Hours before LASIEC announced results on Saturday evening, some of the residents of the LCDA staged a protest at the council secretariat, expressing their dissatisfaction with the conduct of the election.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the protesters accused the APC and LASIEC of rigging the election in favour of Oyesanya who would later be declared winner.
BreezeReporters further gathered that the violent protest continued on Sunday.
More to come.
