Members of Buhari Youth Organisation, Lagos state chapter have commended the humanitarian service and youth development bills sponsored by distinguished lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Reperesnentatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson.
The commendation was made by the Coordinator of the group, Comerade Waheed Odunuga, who led other members on a visit to the constituency office of the lawmaker in Ikorodu area of Lagos.
The visitation was an offshoot of social media engagement based on open governance publication and community engagement services rendered by Tracka.ng out of necessity to include citizens in the community development and resources accountability.
The conversation was held on Twitter where the confident son of Ikorodu left no stones unturned to prove his transparency, accountability and efficiency on 28th June 2018 which led to the invitation to the constituent office.
The BYO Lagos team lead by Abdulwaheed Odunuga the State Coordinator was received by the Special Assistant to the Ikorodu lawmaker, Mr. Adebayo Oteju.
According to BYO, Mr. Oteju was able to brief the team about the constituency projects updates and various other social programmes by the Hon. Benson and his wife like i-CARE FOODBANK; how it was conceived, the development and the desire to ensure it is sustained with continuous improvement feeding about 400 vulnerable families monthly who were nominated mostly by Community and Religious leaders.
”Mr. Oteju was able to show the team around the office where 2 tractors for road grading were packed to make the inner Ikorodu roads motorable and accessible by pedestrians as an effort to provide succour to residents, Hon. Babajimi has also enrolled 1,000 indigenous residents for Health plans provided by Better Health (HMO) that will enable them to access free health services in different clinics closer to them for prompt healthcare.
”In order to address unemployment and contribute his quota to check social vices associated with idle youths, he has created an online portal for the unemployed to submit their CVs for review and considerations for job opportunities. This led to enrolment of about 140 residents for the LSEFT loan scheme after getting them enrolled in various entrepreneurship trainings that will not just make them access the funds but also manage and succeed and employers. He has also and still assisting various others for employment.
The BYO team also inquired about the policies behind the lawmaker’s persistence for serve humanity and learnt that it was much easier for him sue to the team he had.
”It was revealed that Hon. Jimi Benson’s team is filled with more than 90% graduate who are gainfully employed and not political jobbers who depends on political largesse to survive, hence, making it easier to offer objective and independence advice and programmes. More importantly, the developments and achievements were documented in various editions of Newsletters and VCDs that were shared with BYO team for evidential purposes for work done.”
The organisation urged other lawmakers to emulate Hon. Babajimi Benson on his services to his constituency.
