The Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Eyitope Ogunbodede, has broken his silence over a leaked audio suggesting that one Richard Akindele, a Professor in the Department of Accounting, in the institution was demanding s ex from a female student to help her pass her examination.
However, in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Eyitope Ogunbodede, a professor, said the university has begun the process of identifying the person involved. He said the act was a breach of regulations of the university’s code of conduct and anti-sexual harassment policy.
“In full compliance to all applicable laws, the university has set up a high powered committee to investigate the allegation and submit its report within one week. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with decisively.
“The university considers sexual harassment as an offence punishable contrary to the code of conduct and anti-sexual harassment policy. The university will never condone such act by any staff or students,” professor Ogunbodede said.
Although the don, whose name was mentioned in the audio by the victim, is yet to publicly speak on the scandal, multiples sources have revealed that the voice in the audio is that of professor Akindele, who is also said to be a minister in his church.
Premumium Times quoted one of the members of Diocese of Ife Anglican Church, who asked not to be named, as saying: “There is no need for any computer to test the voice. The voice in the leaked audio is exactly that of Reverend Richard Akindele. However, the man is too gentle for such act. The lady purposely set him up.”
Through an interview with another member, also seeking anonymity, it was gathered that co-worshippers visited Mr Akindele’s residence Tuesday morning but met only his wife, who reportedly blamed the devil for her pastor “husband’s trouble.”
The source, a woman, said: “When we heard the news, some of us were surprised. We were at his house very early this (Tuesday) morning but only met his wife who said the devil is at work to soil the name of her husband.”
